How do you perceive yourself? Are there topics you've always wanted to explore? When faced with life's challenges, do you seek someone to talk to, to better understand yourself? Do you seek companionship in times of trauma? How do you navigate interpersonal difficulties? Have you ever considered understanding and reshaping your relationships with family, partners, and friends from a systemic perspective?

If there was someone who could listen to you, respect you, offer different perspectives, and collaborate with you to better understand yourself, face past traumas, and make the changes you desire, I will be here for you.

I particularly enjoy working with women, minorities, Asian women, young adults, middle-aged individuals, and international students. My approach is warm, caring, and non-judgmental. I specialize in assisting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, PTSD, and self-esteem concerns. I draw from various therapeutic approaches like CBT, psychodynamics, attachment theory, internal family systems, and developmental lenses. Because I believe everyone has unique needs, I tailor my methods accordingly.

About Jingchao

What was your path to becoming a therapist?

As a therapist, I transitioned into this role after initially pursuing a career in teaching. However, my personal journey led me to discover a deep interest in human relationships and psychology. My upbringing in a competitive environment and my own experiences with academic pressure have shaped me into a warm and empathetic therapist. I have worked in various settings, including a community counseling clinic, which emphasized the importance of self-reflection and cultural sensitivity. I believe in tailoring therapy to each individual, drawing from approaches such as psychodynamic therapy, CBT, DBT, attachment theory, IFS, and narrative therapy.

What should someone know about working with you?

When working with me, I usually start with gathering client background through questions and tools, progress to creating a collaborative treatment plan, involve regular updates and discussions on client issues, emphasize teamwork, welcome feedback, and incorporate tailored homework assignments.

Initial Consultation - Use basic questions to gather personal background information. - Provide tools and assessments for issue exploration.

Treatment Planning - Collaboratively create a treatment plan based on the client background and goals. - Determine feasible directions for therapy.

Progress Updates - Regularly update and discuss client issues and strategies. - Work as a team with the client.

Feedback and Adjustments - Encourage client feedback for therapy adjustments. - Emphasize a collaborative approach.

Homework Tasks - Develop effective and tailored homework assignments. - Tasks are simple, achievable, and based on client circumstances.

Who is your ideal client?

I enjoy working with clients who genuinely seek to understand themselves—e.g., why certain patterns repeatedly emerge in their lives, such as consistently prioritizing others' needs over their own, handling relationship challenges in a passive-aggressive manner, struggling to articulate their own needs, and more. They also seek guidance and change, desiring to truly embrace themselves, boost confidence in social interactions, and improve communication with family and significant others. They may also face challenges of different cultures, striving to adapt to new environments and life stages, and seeking help along the way. I aim to explore new possibilities with clients through sincere and reflective exchanges.

Are there any aspects of your personal self, therapeutic approach, or viewpoints that might be slightly controversial or challenge norms?

The relationship between a therapist and a client is not always smooth and without conflicts.
