Perhaps as you're reading this, you're not entirely sure why you should try therapy or what it could do for you. Maybe you simply feel that you need some help, or perhaps someone around you has suggested that you might benefit from support. So, you’ve come here. In today's fast-paced and demanding world, external expectations seem to pile up, and you might feel as though you never quite meet those “standards.” No matter how hard you try, there’s always this lingering sense that you’re not living up to others’ expectations.
You may be worried about not achieving certain life goals that you feel you should have reached by now. You might feel like you’re not doing well enough in the present and that the future holds even more uncertainties. Anxiety surrounds you, your mind feels burdened by pressure, and you’re utterly exhausted. And yet, despite all of this, you feel like you can't stop—because stopping might seem like a “waste” of time or opportunities. You find yourself stuck in a place where moving forward feels impossible, but so does slowing down.
These feelings may stem from the fact that, while you are capable in many areas, you haven’t really learned to listen to your own needs. You might be responding to external voices while neglecting your inner one. Perhaps you haven't prioritized becoming the person you truly want to be. My therapy can help you understand the conflicting signals that your body and mind are sending, explore past traumas that may have been overlooked, and deeply understand your inner complexity.
In our therapy space, we will take the time to slow down together. Here, you don't need to meet any external expectations; instead, the focus is on you. We will listen to your voice, respect your feelings, and help you gradually learn how to express your authentic self. My approach is not just about relieving current pain; it's about helping you rebuild an understanding of yourself and learn how to prioritize your emotional needs.
I believe that expressing your true self and reconnecting with your inner child are key steps in healing anxiety and depression. The inner child represents those deep-seated emotional needs and unmet desires. When we ignore these needs and continue playing the roles that others expect of us, emotional suppression and inner conflict arise, leading to anxiety and depression. Through therapy, as we listen to and express those neglected parts of yourself, you’ll rediscover what you truly need and desire, find inner peace and strength, and alleviate the pressures and emotional struggles you’re facing.
Through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I can help you regulate your emotions and build resilience in the face of stress and challenges. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will guide you in reframing your thoughts and responding more flexibly to life’s difficulties, especially when certain situations are beyond your control. Psychodynamic therapy will allow you to explore deeper emotional patterns, helping you move past past traumas and gain more inner freedom.
During our sessions, I’ll provide a warm, safe space to help you listen to your inner voice, respect your emotions, and gradually express the real you. Even if you're unsure about therapy or whether it’s right for you, I hope you’ll consider giving yourself the opportunity to explore your inner world.
The ultimate goal of our therapy is to help you reclaim your own voice. Throughout this journey, I will be here to support you as we navigate life’s ups and downs together. We’ll work towards helping you find your unique understanding of yourself and the world around you, nurturing your inner child along the way. The goal is to help you live more freely, with greater confidence, and feel more in control of your life. This process is about reconnecting with your true self, and through that connection, you’ll face life’s challenges with more clarity and resilience.
About Zixuan
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I cannot define being a therapist as my first or second career because, due to the pandemic, I have tried various jobs. These jobs, though not considered “good” by conventional standards, provided me with opportunities to understand the diverse life challenges faced by individuals from different cultures. These experiences taught me the importance of respect—respect for individual uniqueness and varied life experiences. This understanding enables me to grasp the subtle differences and challenges faced by clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, helping me build strong therapeutic relationships with them.
I have worked in private practice, providing individual therapy, couples counseling, and telehealth services. My experience with diverse populations has underscored the importance of adaptability and cultural competence, helping me develop a holistic therapeutic approach that integrates various techniques to meet each client's unique needs. I have completed specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), marriage and couples therapy, and high-functioning autism. These trainings have equipped me with the skills to address a wide range of issues, from anxiety and depression to complex trauma.
What should someone know about working with you?
In the first two sessions, I will focus on understanding your current concerns, background, and treatment goals. During this process, I will carefully listen and document your needs to establish a solid foundation for our therapeutic work. As we continue, I will regularly assess your progress to ensure our treatment plan aligns with your goals. We will set both short-term and long-term goals together, and I will adjust the treatment plan based on regular feedback and your evolving needs.
To reinforce the therapeutic process, I may assign small tasks or "homework" tailored to your specific situation and personality. These tasks are designed to help you explore and practice the concepts we discuss during our sessions. I particularly enjoy working with clients who are actively engaged in the therapeutic process, willing to face challenges, and open to trying new approaches. My commitment is to provide a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment to help you achieve personal growth and inner peace.
Who is your ideal client?
My favorite clients are those who are experiencing anxiety and depression. They often seek a sense of well-being, stability, and relief from their distress. In their own words, they may express a desire to "feel normal again," "find peace of mind," or "regain control over my life." These clients are typically looking for effective coping strategies, emotional support, and a safe space to explore their feelings and challenges. Additionally, I help clients build an understanding of their self and emotional relationships. Human anxiety often stems from the unknown; by understanding the "unknown" parts of themselves and learning to better cope with anxiety, clients can more effectively handle various "unknowns." This is something we can explore together. I align my communication style to be empathetic, supportive, and encouraging, fostering a therapeutic environment where they can feel understood and empowered.
Are there any aspects of your personal self, therapeutic approach, or viewpoints that might be slightly controversial or challenge norms?
One potentially controversial aspect of my therapeutic approach is my belief that discomfort during sessions can lead to deeper self-understanding and reflection. Therapy is not suitable for everyone, but I personally see it as a valuable path to self-awareness and self-help. Sometimes, the methods used by a therapist may not always be suitable, and it's important for clients to feel comfortable sharing their honest feelings about this. I encourage clients to openly communicate any discomfort they experience so we can adjust the approach or explore these feelings together, enhancing the therapeutic process and outcomes.
